Lantern Deep privacy policy

Last updated 5 November 2026

Overview

This policy explains what information Lantern Deep (the “game”), made by Brodie Labs (“we”, “us”), collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can, we do not sell personal information, and we never ask for your real name, email address, address or phone number to play. There are no accounts, no advertising identifiers in the game itself, and no analytics or tracking software. The only time the game talks to the internet is for the optional Daily Descent leaderboard and, if you choose to use them, the Supporter purchase and rewarded ads described below.

Information we collect

  • Game progress and settings. Your progress, best depth, embers, outfits, trophies, journal and settings (music, sound, vibration, controls) are saved on your device. This information stays on your device and is not sent to us.
  • Anonymous player ID. To post a Daily Descent score, the game signs in anonymously with Unity Gaming Services. This creates a random player ID that is not linked to your name, email, phone number or device identifiers. The game stores it on your device so that your scores stay yours.
  • Leaderboard scores. When you finish a Daily Descent run, the game sends your score for that day and your anonymous player ID to Unity’s leaderboard service. Leaderboard entries are visible to other players.
  • Optional display name. You can choose a display name (3 to 12 letters and numbers) on the leaderboard screen. If you do, it is stored by Unity against your player ID and shown next to your score. Unity adds a number after it so names stay unique. Please do not use your real name or any personal information. If you do not choose a name, Unity may assign a randomly generated one.
  • Technical data from network requests. Like any internet service, Unity’s servers receive your device’s IP address when the game connects, and may keep it in server logs for security and reliability. We do not receive or use it.
  • Supporter purchase. If you buy the optional Supporter pack, Google Play processes the payment. We never see your card or payment details. The game only learns whether Google Play says you own the pack, so it can unlock it, including after a reinstall or on a new phone.
  • Rewarded ads. An optional rewarded ad, shown only if you tap to watch it after a run, is delivered by a third-party ad network, which may collect device and advertising identifiers and information about your interaction with the ad, under its own privacy policy. Rewarded ads are not switched on in the game yet. Before they are, this policy will be updated to name the ad network and link to its policy, and the game will ask for any consent the law requires.

How we use information

  • Run the game, keep your progress and show the Daily Descent leaderboard.
  • Unlock the Supporter pack and double your embers when you have bought it or watched an ad.
  • Keep the leaderboard fair and fix problems.
  • Respond when you contact us.
  • Meet our legal obligations.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling or analytics, and nothing in the game changes based on who you are.

Sharing and service providers

We do not sell or rent personal information. Information is handled by these service providers, only to provide the features above:

  • Unity Technologies (Unity Gaming Services: anonymous authentication, leaderboards and player names). See Unity’s privacy policy.
  • Google Play (the one-time Supporter purchase and installing the game). See Google’s privacy policy.
  • A rewarded ad network, once ads are switched on, as described above.

These providers may process information in countries other than your own, including the United States. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Your progress and settings stay on your device until you uninstall the game or clear its data. The Daily Descent leaderboard resets every day at 00:00 UTC. Your anonymous player ID, display name and scores remain with Unity until you ask us to delete them (see below). Emails you send us are kept only as long as we need them to help you.

Your choices and rights

  • Play without any of it. Everything except the Daily Descent leaderboard works offline, and you can play the whole campaign without ever posting a score.
  • Display name. The name is optional and you can change it from the leaderboard screen at any time.
  • Vibration, sound and music. Each can be turned off in Settings.
  • Delete your data. Uninstalling the game removes your saved progress and stored player ID from your device. To have your leaderboard data (player ID, display name and scores) deleted from Unity as well, email privacy@brodielabs.ca with the display name you used and roughly when you played, and we will respond within 30 days.
  • Access or correction. Email the same address.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or move your personal information, and to object to or restrict how it is used. These include rights under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, and US state laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority, which in Canada is the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children

Lantern Deep is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at privacy@brodielabs.ca and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we will also let you know in the game. We will update this policy before adding any feature that collects new information, including before rewarded ads are switched on.
